So, how do I plan to get the the next level in my Copic coloring proficiency? Believe you me, I'm putting a lot of time and money into this venture. I am constantly looking for new and better ways to help me to understand a technique better or to bring new techniques into my arsenal. So, what am I doing?
As I said in my intro, I watch A LOT of comic coloring videos on YouTube. If practice makes perfect, so does repetitive viewing. You begin to see commonalities in techniques, things you don't see if you just do a quick view or two. When I find an artist who has great tutorials, has a lot of tutorials, is a good teacher or colors the type of images that I like to color, I tend to stalk their channel...literally.
One such YouTuber is called Craftybits. Here is a link to one of my favorite images. I was so interested in knowing how to color dreads and OMG, this is great https://youtu.be/qXyXP_eLdVA. She has multiple playlists where she colors characters of all types and for all occasions. She does many different types of characters, different skin tones, hair types/colors...something to satisfy anyone. Other YouTubers are: Heather's Hobby Heaven, Comic in the Classroom, Jennifer Dove and Marker Geek. I learned so much from watching these guys.
I am also taking various online Copic classes from some well known crafters, bloggers and Copic artists. Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner have a great online class company where they feature artists known for their expertise in a certain medium, check it out: https://www.onlinecardclasses.com.
The other class that I'm taking is through Kit and Clowder, it's an Australian based company but, being that it's online, it's accessible worldwide. When you subscribe to her monthly service, a new class is dropped into your email on the 15th of each month. If you're serious or like me, are serious but time is limited, it's so worth checking out: http://www.kitandclowder.com. These are some of the images that she colors and you as the student would be working through. I'll be working on these this month, can't wait.
Now, speaking of Jennifer Dove, she hosts a Copic BootCamp in Arizona a couple of times a year. I'll be going out there this October to work with this certified Copic colorer and learn first hand how I can enhance my skills. You can learn more at this blogger website: http://copicbootcamp.blogspot.com.
I will be out there for a four day boot camp...October 25th through October 29th. Many of the ladies make this an annual trip for the learning, the camaraderie and it sounds like for just plain fun. I'm so looking forward to this.
The next few months to years should be filled with more and more creative endeavors. I look forward to continuing the journey...Oh the places we'll go!
